Bryson DeChambeau’s wayward shot in the opening round of the 2026 LIV Golf Adelaide event almost hit a fan in the gallery. The American golfer teed it up in the second event of the season on Thursday.

He started the round on the first tee at The Grange Golf Club, and on hole 14, he took his shot, and the ball went straight into the gallery. A golf fan page, Andy North, shared the clip on his X (formerly Twitter) account with a caption:

“Flipped on LIV Adelaide and literally the first thing I see is Bryson sending a missile into a bunch of people’s skulls while Men at Work plays the jazz flute”

Bryson DeChambeau ended up making a par on the par-3 hole. He started the round with a par on the first hole. He made a bogey and two birdies on the front nine, then four birdies on the back nine, and tied for the lead at 6-under with Marc Leishman.

Bryson DeChambeau reflects on strong start at LIV Golf Adelaide

After the first round of the LIV Golf Adelaide event, Bryson DeChambeau talked about his performance.

“The wind was up and it was switching and it was honestly going back and forth all day long,” DeChambeau said. “On 9, there was a moment where I thought it was off the left, then it right off the right when I hit. On 15, it was downwind, then it went just off the right. 16, it swirled for Jon. 17 was fine.

“There was a few — 14 was a perfect example. I thought the wind was off the left, considering the last hole, and the wind was off the right and I missed it long left. It’s just one of those things that makes it difficult out here, and that’s why we love golf,” he added.

Before this, Bryson DeChambeau had played at the LIV Golf Riyadh event. He started the tournament with an opening round of 68 and then carded rounds of 71, 67, and 68 to finish tied for 17th place. He is looking forward to this week’s game. Last year at the LIV Golf Adelaide event, he was tied for 18th place. He played three rounds of 68, 73, and 71.

This week at the LIV Golf Adelaide event, Dustin Johnson also had an impressive time, and after the opening round, he was tied for third place at 5-under. Anthony Kim, who has recently joined the 4Aces GC, also had a good outing in the opening round of the tournament. He carded 5-under and settled in a tie for third place.

Notably, LIV Golf changed its format, and it is now being played in a 72-hole stroke format. The tournament will have its finale on Sunday, Feb. 15.
