The Chicago Bears entered halftime of their intradivisional late-afternoon matchup at the Green Bay Packers down 14-3. And there was a massive incident towards the end of the first half.

With over three minutes left to play in the first quarter, both sides got in to a scuffle, with cornerback Keisean Nixon in particular grabbing and shoving rookie wide receiver Luther Burden III’s neck:

None of Caleb Williams’ weapons reached even 30 scrimmage yards, with rookie running back Kyle Monangai coming the closest with 25 yards on eight carries. Another running back, D’Andre Swift, was the only player to have multiple receptions, eventually logging 11 yards.

For the Packers, Christian Watson and Bo Melton amassed over 40 yards and caught a touchdown each from Jordan Love. Josh Jacobs complemented them with 44 yards on 12 carries.

Packers-Bears second-half summary

The Bears opened the second half in commanding fashion. After forcing the Packers to punt, they finally reached the end zone for the first time, courtesy of Caleb Williams finding Olamide Zaccheaus for a reception. Kyle Monangai rushed for two to reduce the deficit to three.

However, Jordan Love did not take long to respond, finding Christian Watson for six for the second time. Cairo Santos then pulled the visitors back to within a single possession with a field goal.

Another Packers punt gave the Bears an opportunity to score, and they capitalized, as Williams found Colston Loveland for a touchdown to tie the game. But it was not long before the Packers answered, as Josh Jacobs scored his first rushing touchdown of the day.

The Bears still had much time to tie the game or even win it. However, Williams was intercepted at the endzone, sealing the game. He finished with just 186 yards from 19 completions. Love, on the other hand, finished with 234 yards on two fewer completions.

As for Luther Burden III, the man who was at the focal point of the second-quarter brawl, he finished the game having caught the ball four times for 67 yards.

The Bears’ next game is against the Cleveland Browns, while the Packers visit the Denver Broncos. Both games will be held next Sunday at 12 pm and 3:25 pm CT, respectively.
