A lot of golfers will remember their first round with Tiger Woods and experienced campaigner Adam Scott is no different.
Scott has gone on to become a Masters champion and is closing in on playing in 100 consecutive majors.
The Australian is very much one of the PGA Tour’s most likeable characters and in the last few years, he’s worked his way up into the upper echelons of the TOUR’s hierarchy.
How many wins do you think 2000’s Tiger Woods would have if playing in 2025?
And how would it impact Scottie Scheffler’s incredible year?
Along that journey, Scott has got to know Tiger that bit more but looking back to the year 2000 when Scott was first introduced to the 15-time major winner, he was left pretty impressed.
Adam Scott’s first practice round with Tiger Woods
Most golfers have got a story about their first time playing with Tiger and it’s usually one that’s left them impressed.
Back in 2000, Woods was dominating and it was the year that he went on to win at Pebble Beach by 15.
Scott has previously commented on how impressed he was by Woods that week, but it was what happened in a practice round the week prior that really rammed home to Scott how good Woods was.
After being invited to play alongside Woods by Butch Harmon – they were both being coached by him at the time – Scott told the PGA Tour website how he had been left blown away by Woods’ ability.
“I had just decided to turn pro in 2000 and got Butch Harmon’s blessing to do that because he was coaching me, and of course Tiger, at the time. We talked about it and he felt strongly that I should go and play in Europe first and gain some experience,” Scott revealed.
“A week or so before the U.S. Open, I was in Las Vegas and Tiger was stopping in on the Sunday before heading to Pebble Beach. Butch said to me on Saturday, ‘Tiger is coming in and if he goes and plays, you can play with him.’ So I was nervous, of course.
“We went out and played and we had a match, and I was maybe 1-down through the turn at Rio Secco, and then Tiger stepped it up and went birdie, birdie, birdie and had an eagle. He closed me out on the 14th and shot 63 – with a double bogey at the ninth. I was a bit blown away by what I saw. It was quite windy and I thought I played quite well. I probably shot even par and I was nine off the pace.
“I made a throwaway comment to Butch, something like, ‘Maybe I should reconsider turning pro.’ The only thing that made me feel good was he won the U.S. Open by 15 the next week, so I was quite happy to see that no one else really played like that.”

How Tiger Woods shut Xander Schauffele up when they played together
In the modern game, Tiger Woods is adored by everyone and he’s formed excellent relationships over the years with players both young and old.
One of the modern greats who Tiger has taken to is Xander Schauffele.
And like so many others, Schauffele has previously revealed how Woods soon silenced him.
“These days I do like to make fun of him for being old and stiff and stuff like that, and I think I might have tried that a little on that first day, but he shut me up pretty quick,” he commented.
So, it very much seems that Woods has a habit of leaving a first impression that few can.
