Charlie Woods is taking a different path from his dad Tiger Woods in his college journey. The 17-year-old golfer has chosen the Florida State University, and is not joining his dad’s alma mater, Stanford University, which has surprised many fans.
Charlie Woods is attending the Benjamin School and will graduate in the spring of 2027. The emerging golfer is currently 21st in the American Junior Golf Association rankings.
Since Charlie started pursuing golf more seriously, it was expected that he would follow his dad’s footsteps. For the uninitiated, his sister, Sam, is also enrolled at Stanford, but the young golfer is choosing a different path.
“Excited to announce my commitment to play golf at Florida State University — go Noles!” Charlie wrote on Instagram.
While the young golfer hasn’t revealed the reason behind joining the Florida State University instead of Stanford, one explanation could be the proximity. Notably, the Woods family lives in Jupiter and FSU is closer to Stanford.
Recently, Seminoles head coach Trey Jones was seen watching Charlie at the Benjamin School during their second win at the FHSAA Class 1A. Besides, Charlie, the top-ranked junior Miles Russell is also committed to the Seminoles in June.
So far, Woods has won just one title in amateur golf. His maiden win came at the Team TaylorMade Invitational, where he finished at 15-under. Besides, he also made a top-ten finish at the Boys’ Junior PGA Championship.
Woods has made regular appearances at the PNC Championship with Tiger, except for the last edition. For the uninitiated, Woods Sr. hasn’t played any competitive golf for more than 18 months now. Last year, he underwent a couple of surgeries and is currently recovering from them.
