Why golf could follow tennis by putting on its own battle of the sexes

Golf has been expanding in recent times with the introduction of YouTube golf events and the TGL but they could also take a leaf out of tennis’ book to further enhance the game.

We saw last night in tennis that the battle of the sexes event drew plenty of eyes.

Nick Kyrgios and Aryna Sabalenka went head to head with concessions made – including a smaller back court – to the female world number one and Kyrgios coming out on top on what was an entertaining spectacle.

How many LPGA Tour events will Nelly Korda win in 2026?

Of course, the event has had its critics as well as those who praised it but in the main, it came across as a success and with the PGA and LPGA Tours in such a strong position right now, it’s something golf could follow.

Scottie Scheffler v Nelly Korda could be golf’s answer to tennis spectacle

While the tennis saw the women’s world number one meet a male player ranked way down in the 600s, when it comes to golf, there’s a chance for two of the top players in the world to put on a show.

That means we could get Scottie Scheffler v Nelly Korda in an all-American affair.

Given Scheffler’s dominance on the PGA side of things and Korda a force to be reckoned with on the LPGA side despite losing her world number one spot this year, it would be quite the watch.

Of course, there would be arguments over how to make it a completely even contest but with Scheffler’s obvious distance advantage, the simple solution would be to play off different tees.

Korda is definitely good enough to compete with Scheffler and if she did manage to beat him, it would be worldwide news and give the LPGA another boost.

It would, of course, open doors for other big matches, with both sides having a number of talents they could put forward.

Could a mixed ‘Ryder Cup’ event be a future option for golf?

With more and more crossover in all sports in the modern era and golf already leading the way with some mixed sex events, we could well see the sport advance things further.

The ‘Battle of the Sexes’ idea is a good one to keep in mind, while eventually, a full tournament involving male and female players would also be interesting.

How far did you get in this golf quiz?

How that would pan out, is open to debate.

But golf has a real chance to lead the way in this space and after the success of the tennis, it makes sense for golf to pursue such avenues further.
