Jermod McCoy tore his ACL 13 months ago, sidelining him for all of the 2025 season and ultimately ending his college football career. However, he surprisingly showed up at the Scouting Combine on Thursday, and one famous acquaintance took notice.
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes took to his X account to repost a 2018 image of himself visiting his high school alma mater, Whitehouse, and posing with McCoy (jersey No. 22):
“Wild to see @JermodMccoy at the podium at the combine. Good luck this year! #whitehousewildcats.”

While McCoy is skipping the workouts, he did address the media. During his availability, he declared himself fully healed and with “no limits”:
“I was just easing into my training out of college and just trying to make sure everything was good. The plan from the jump was for me to do pro day, do all my medicals and stuff to show that I’m healthy.”
He continued:
“I got back to training, and I just felt like myself again. I made a big impact the year that I played. I just felt like I was ready.”
The former Volunteer via Oregon State, widely considered one of the best cornerback prospects of the 2026 class, will showcase his skills at Tennessee’s Pro Day.
Which teams make the most sense for Jermod McCoy in 2026 draft?
There are many avenues that Jermod McCoy can take toward his NFL career. One of the most obvious is the Miami Dolphins, who had one of 2025’s weakest secondaries in terms of talent.
While that unit managed to be middling rather than terrible, allowing an average of 216.4 yards per game through the air (18th overall), it faces multiple departures, most notably Rasul Douglas and Jack Jones. With that in mind, CBS Sports’ Josh Edwards wrote:
“(New head coach) Jeff Hafley’s background is coaching defensive backs. The team has invested ample resources into a defensive line that remains very much a work in progress while neglecting the secondary. If Jermod McCoy returns to form, he could be one of the best prospects to emerge from this class.”
Meanwhile, his colleague Bryant McFadden sees the Los Angeles Rams as the destination, given their need for a shutdown cornerback to counter the likes of Jaxon Smith-Njigba:
“He’s a guy that plays with fire. He’s an alpha. He loves to insert himself and instantly their defense becomes better because you look at the guys that hunt the quarterbacks. It helps the guys in the back end.”

The scouting combine will run until March 1.
