Wildfires,ย floods and stormsย are racking up a massive bill โ€” and most of it is falling on the U.S.

Weather disasters areย costing the U.S. billions, and itโ€™s only halfway through the year.

A new report shows storms, wildfires and other extreme weather have caused $93 billion in damage globally so far this year, with 70% of that total impacting in the U.S.

The worst event?ย The wildfires in southern Californiaย caused a record $53 billion in damage, including $13 billion for people without insurance.

Experts say the growing price tag is due to more development in high-risk areas, plus more intense disasters fueled by climate change.

Other costly events include tornadoes, floods and severe storms across the country, adding up to billions more in damage.

There’s another concern: Many people and communities aren’t insured, leaving them to pay the price on their own. The report’s authors say the U.S. needs better data, stronger policies and smarter planning to handle what’s coming.
