Bills COO Pete Guelli provides an update on timline for new Highmark Stadium opening
On Monday, the Bills’ Chiefs Operating Officer, Pete Guelli, discussed when they plan on inaugurating the new stadium for the team.
He said that they are looking to “get the keys” to this new place by June.
“The work going on, it’s seven days a week now, whatever it takes to get it open,” Guelli said. “So I think we’re in a great spot, we’re supposed to get they keys sometime in June. We’re still on track to do that. Substantial completion is obviously a little different than complete, so we’ll be ready to start hosting football games in August.”
Guelli also said that they’ll be testing out the new place with smaller events in the coming days.
“That’s a football-first facility. It’s a grass field. We want to make sure we aren’t doing anything that is going to take away from that first game that takes place there.
“So we’re going to have a number of smaller events to kind of introduce the fans to the building, get people confortable. … But I think the first major event in that building will be the blue and red scrimmage.”
Last season, quarterback Josh Allen helped his team finish second in the AFC East with a 12-5 record. They qualified for the playoffs, but lost to the Broncos in a divisional round showdown.
