“You’re not worth the headache”: Shannon Sharpe blames Trevon Diggs for souring relationship with Jerry Jones-headed Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys parted ways with Trevon Diggs ahead of their final game of the season. The Cowboys released the All-Pro cornerback earlier this week and have already found a new team after the Green Bay Packers claimed him on waivers.

The Cowboys have been rumored to have released the cornerback because he didn’t fly back with the team following last week’s win against the Washington Commanders. According to rumors, Diggs had asked to stay back in Washington while his teammates traveled back on the team plane.

Although Diggs’ request was denied as it was against team protocol for a player to travel alone, the All-Pro cornerback stayed in Washington to spend time with his family.

Former NFL star Shannon Sharpe discussed the rumors with Chad Ochocinco on the Nightcap podcast.

“The man told you we came as a team, we’re leaving as a team,” Sharpe said. “Tolerance will never outweigh production. I don’t give a damn who you are, as my coaching in college told us, he said, ‘I’m gonna treat y’all fair, but I ain’t treating you the same.’

“For the production that Trevon was giving them. They finally said, ‘You’re not worth the headache.’ I told you they were moving on after the season. He just sped uo the process.”

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones justified Trevon Diggs’ extension

Trevon Diggs registered 17 interceptions and 49 pass breakups in his first three seasons with the franchise. He was rewarded with a five-year, $97 million extension before the 2023 season.

However, the All-Pro has managed just three interceptions since then and did not register any interceptions in his eight games for the Cowboys in 2025. Following his exit, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Diggs deserved the extension with the team.

“He deserved to be paid (when we signed him to a contract extension in July 2023),” Jones said. “That production, injury-wise or otherwise has fallen off. There are a lot of reasons for it. But I wish him well.”

The Cowboys will look for potential roster pieces after their season finale against the New York Jets on Sunday.
