The Pittsburgh Steelers hired Mike McCarthy as their new coach in January. McCarthy replaced Mike Tomlin, who stepped down from the position after 19 years with the franchise. Before signing with Pittsburgh, McCarthy coached the Dallas Cowboys for five years from 2020 to 2024.

In February, Cowboys wideout CeeDee Lamb appeared on the “Ross Tucker Podcast,” and a clip of him waxing lyrical about McCarthy resurfaced this week.

“He loves Pittsburgh. That’s my man. I love Mike,” Lamb said. “He’s a great time. As soon as you walk in the building, you’re going to feel his energy, and you’re going to feel what he wants to do.

“He wants to go vertical with the ball. … That’s (a) guy I would run through a wall for. Mike did a great job developing me during my first five years in the league, and I knew what to prepare for going forward.”

McCarthy coached Lamb for all five years in Dallas. He helped the wideout earn five Pro Bowl honors.

It will be interesting to see how McCarthy, a Super Bowl-winning coach, fares with the Steelers.

During his five years with the Cowboys, Mike McCarthy helped the team win two NFC East titles. He compiled a 49-35 regular-season record in Dallas and a 1-3 postseason record.

However, the Cowboys did not renew McCarthy’s contract, and he left the team in January 2025. Dallas hired Brian Schottenheimer as his replacement.

In Schottenheimer’s first year, the Cowboys posted a 7-9-1 record and failed to make the playoffs.
